Intellectual Property

What Is Intellectual Property?

Intellectual Property, or "IP", might be described as the intangible product of predominantly intellectual effort giving rise to rights which the law considers to be capable of ownership ... and some other stuff. The term is commonly used to refer to patents, trade marks, copyright, designs, plant breed rights, electronic circuitry, business names, look and feel, licence rights, trade secrets and know-how, confidential information, goodwill and some aspects of information technology.

Does My Business Have any IP?

Definitely. All businesses have or develop their own IP, irrespective of what type of business it is. Anything unique to a business, whether it is its name, logos, inventions or trade secrets - even its customer list - is intellectual property.

This is important because that IP is valuable - often invaluable - to the business.

How Can LegalIT Help?

At LegalIT, we understand why IP is valuable and we know how to protect, enhance and enforce it to your advantage. If you are new to IP concepts, we can help explain them to you and help you unlock the IP that is in your business. If you are well aware of your IP and its value, we can help you protect it, enhance it and enforce it.
